“It’s Just a cat”

Yes, we know. That doesn’t change how special he is to us. I’ve had dozens of cats in my life and Roofer is just different. It could be “just” a car, a vacation, an old watch… We all have things that hold a little extra of our heart.

Why put so much energy into this when there are so many other tragedies of greater magnitude? 

Is this a “GoFundMe? No, no it’s not. We’re not sticking our hand out because life isn’t going our way. The kids love Roofer so much and they’d do anything to save him. I’m telling my kids that if they want something, they can work really hard to try for it. They really want Roofer to be okay.

Don’t your kids know about the circle of life? You’re going to raise kids who don’t know how to handle disappointment and grief. 

Yes, my kids are fully aware of the circle of life. We’ve lost animals, people and a home. The goal isn’t to protect them from hard feelings. The goal is to teach them to work hard for what is important to them.
